How do I use an electric scooter?

Riding an electric scooter is very easy and most people get the hang of it quickly – and love it. Nought scooters accelerate and break using levers on the handlebars, very similar to a bike. For your first ride, we’d recommend finding a safe, hard, dry, open area to get comfortable with the balance, steering, acceleration and braking. You’ll be surprised how intuitive riding a Nought scooter feels.

How can I lock the scooter?

It’s easy to keep your electric scooter safe using a range of locks, very similar to a bike. Being super lightweight and portable, our Nought scooters can also easily be carried inside with you for maximum security.  For extra ease, we’ll be launching a lock designed specifically to fit your Nought scooter soon, along with a range of other accessories, subscribe to our mailing list to keep up to date with our new releases.

Where can I ride my electric scooter?

In the UK, it’s currently only legal to use your own electric scooter on private land and not on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or pedestrian-only areas. However, this law is being reviewed and you’ll see a lot of electric scooters out and about on the streets. A lot of these scooters are part of rental trials that are being conducted in multiple cities until November 2022.

Private electric scooters are set to be legalised for use on public roads across the UK, under the upcoming Transport Bill introduced at the Queen's speech on 10th May.

How fast does the Nought. One go?

The maximum speed Nought scooters can go is 25mph. This is capped in some jurisdictions to 15.5mph.

How can I charge my electric scooter?

Nought has been designed to make charging as easy and efficient as possible. There’s no need to bring the whole scooter to a plug socket – you can simply remove the battery from underneath the deck and place it on charge. Of course, it’s also possible to plug in the scooter directly – whatever you prefer.

How long will the battery last?

A full battery charge should last you for around 15-20 miles but you can always carry a spare battery in your bag to extend the range.

How do I unpack and assemble my scooter?

To unpack and assemble the scooter, you simply need to remove the packaging and attach the handle bars. We provide the correct sized allen key and instructions to make it as quick and simple as possible. We’d then recommend a full battery re-charge and you’re ready to ride!

Can I ride in the rain? Is the electric scooter waterproof?

Yes! Nought is one of the only electric scooters that offers IP65 waterproof rating so you can ride whatever the weather. However, the scooter isn’t designed to be submerged into water and please do take extra caution riding in the rain as electric scooters work best on hard, dry surfaces.

Can 2 people ride on the same scooter?

The scooter is designed for one rider so it’s not recommended for 2 people to ride at the same time.

What do the symbols on the interface mean?

Will accessories be available for my Nought scooter?

Are electric scooters legal in the UK?

It’s legal to buy and own an electric scooter in the UK but there are restrictions on where you can ride them. They are only legal to use on private land and not on public roads, pavements, cycle lanes or pedestrian-only areas. How can I ride an electric scooter safely?

Electrics cooters themselves should be perfectly safe and riding an electric scooter is mostly about having common sense. Here’s a few things we’d recommend to help keep you safe:

  • Wear a helmet when riding
  • Carry personal items in a backpack
  • Familiarise yourself with the scooter, its controls and operations before first using it
  • Practise for your first ride in a safe, hard, dry, open area to get comfortable with the balance, steering, acceleration and braking
  • Always be considerate and watch out for other people that may not see or hear you coming
  • Avoid hitting obstructions, potholes or kerbs as this could damage the scooter as well as lead to injury
Do I need a drivers licence to ride an electric scooter?

Currently a driving licence is not required to ride an electric scooter.

What is the minimum age to ride an e scooter?

We recommend our electric scooter is ridden by those 18 and over.

Can children ride e-scooters?

There are specific lower powered electric scooters designed for children but Nought.one is designed for adults only.

Do I need to wear a helmet to ride an electric scooter?

Helmets are not currently a legal requirement whilst riding an electric scooter in the UK, but it’s recommended to use one for safety. A cycling helmet works well.

How can I get my electric scooter repaired?

We have a dedicated workshop in the UK for any repairs and servicing and our members of staff have years of experience working with electric scooters. Please send us an email to help@nought.tech  Detailing the faults and adding any necessary photos if you require a repair.

What's included in the warranty?

We provide a full 2 year UK warranty with our Nought scooters which covers:

  • Warranty for the battery
  • Warranty on vehicle body outside of the areas covered below
  • Warranty for other electronics that are not outlines below

Please note that we only provide a warranty service if your scooter develops a fault through normal use (as per manufacturers manual). If the scooter has been altered in any way or misused (including crashes/drops/ water damage) then the warranty is void.

We are not liable for any repairs which includes tyre punctures, disc brakes & pads, kick-stands, lights, grips, reflective stickers, mudguards, cable damage or any other consumables which would wear out/occur within normal use of the scooter.

You will also be responsible for any shipping costs if the warranty is void or no valid claim. There will also be a labour charger for work carried out if the warranty is void.

We advise you keep the original box in case it needs to be used in the future. If a replacement box is required there is a £25 charge for this.

If you are returning the product back to us for any reason we strongly advise you take some photos of the scooter from all angles and email them over to us before you send the scooter. Without these photos Nought or the courier cannot be deemed liable for any damage to the product.

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure the scooter is securely packaged.  You can either send the scooter back to us yourself via your courier of choice or we can arrange for it to be collected for you. The fee for this is £25.

If you have a collection booked in and you are not there when the courier arrives or the item is not ready, you will be charged for a failed collection. The item must be boxed and ready beforehand.

We will require you to send back the old scooter if we decide to offer you a new scooter in exchange as part of the repair. Failure to send this will void any warranty with the new product until the original is returned.

Like with any vehicle, customers should expect and be responsible for maintenance from time to time. Consumable items (such as bearings, rubbers etc) will need replacing as part of this, so this is not covered under the product warranty.

Is the warranty valid worldwide?

No, the warranty is only valid in the country where the scooter was purchased.

What should I do if there is a problem with my scooter during the warranty period?

If there’s a problem with your Nought scooter during the 2 year warranty period, please send us an email to help@nought.tech with details of the fault and any necessary photos. We will then organise for the scooter to be returned back to us for repair.

What happens to any broken parts?

We aim to recycle any old or broken parts to reduce our impact on the environment as much as possible.

How should I clean my scooter?

It’s always best to keep your electric scooter as clean as possible- it’s easy to wipe down with a simple, dry cleaning cloth. For more stubborn bits of dirt, you can use a slightly damp cloth and some light cleaning products.

How can I best maintain my scooter?

It’s important to maintain your electric scooter for your safety. We’d recommend checking the tires, brakes and folding mechanism before each ride.

How is it best to charge my scooter battery?

For maximum flexibility, Nought’s battery can be charged both in and out of the scooter.  When plugged in, you’ll see the light on the charging block turn from green to red. It will then go back to green once fully charged. We don’t advise leaving the scooter unattended or charging overnight.

If you are not going to use the scooter or store it away for a period of time, we’d recommend changing the scooter to roughly 60-70%.

How long should the tyres last?

Your electric scooter tires should last anywhere from 2,000 – 3,000 miles, depending on how the scooter is ridden. It’s important to ensure the tires are regularly checked, especially the pressure, as this is key to optimising the scooter’s performance and range.

As for punctures- the main cause for most punctures isn’t the tyre itself, but the inner tubes. With the Nought. One, you don’t have to worry about this. We’ve designed the scooter with tubeless air-filled tyres for extra durability.

Is the battery replaceable?

Absolutely, a key aspect of the Nought Scooter is the interchangeable battery.

Can you take a Nought scooter on an Airplane

Unfortunately, like most electric scooters Nought. One can’t be taken on a plane. This is because the battery size required to power an electric scooter efficiently is a lot higher than the FAA guidelines of up to 100Wh (watt hours) in carry-on luggage and up to 160Wh in checked baggage.

Can I test ride the Nought. One?

We’re working on bringing you the opportunity to try and test our scooters before you buy – stay tuned.

Should I keep my box?

Yes. We recommend you keep the box and packaging safe, just in case you have an issue and need to send the product back.

Can I add a phone mount?

Yes, phone mounts can be added onto the scooters. Keep an eye out for our own range of Nought accessories, including phone mounts, launching soon.
